The inaugural match between North Walsham R.U.F.C. and Norwich Union R.U.F.C.

This film begins with shots of the players at their daytime jobs. These include the R.A.F. and white collar jobs, e.g. a draughtsman. Teams run onto the field before Dick Joice introduces this piece about a rugger match between the Norwich Union and North Walsham. This was the inaugural game of North Walsham R.U.F.C., which had been founded the previous November. General shots of rugby, that include a penalty being taken, intercut with interviews with the partners of the players and officials. With one exception these all possess voices straight from the County Set. The first, the wife of the club vice-president and Norfolk County Secretary, is not sure of the score, although she has been watching the match. Asked about soccer, she replies "I've never watched the game, frankly". The second, a younger woman, says, "I don't like it when they sort of kick each other and things like that". In response to John McGregor's question she pronounces her self to be horrified at the thought that any of her children should ever grow up to play soccer. Another describes rugger as a more manly game. Another, the only female interviewee with a local voice, is not over keen on the game. Norwich Union win the match narrowly. The players are seen naked in the changing room and bath, (rear view only) and then dressing. Jacket and tie and College scarves prevail. in the clubhouse there are scenes of the players drinking and smoking before breaking into a rugby song, (one that could be repeated on primetime television). Men interviewed in the club house include the two touch judges, a Welsh barman, Taffy Davies and the Club President of the Norwich Union Club. By day he is an Executive Officer at the Norwich Union in charge of administration and staffing. The President of North Walsham R.U.F.C., Colonel Marshall, expresses optimism at the future of his club. John Bristow, the captain of Norwich Union, and a member of the North Walsham team, are also interviewed. Just called John, the North Walsham player is one day off his 16th birthday.The film ends with more scenes of drinking and Rugby songs.
