Christopher Chataway reports for Transatlantic Teleview - a magazine film series aimed at introducing aspects of British society to American television audiences - on the concept of new towns, built to house some of London's booming post-war population. Reporting from Harlow in Essex, Chataway interviews Frederick Gibberd, the town's consultant architect planner, about the advantages of planned towns and the ability to control the placement of residential, industrial and commercial districts. Business owners and residents also speak broadly in support of the concept and its positive impact on their lives, before Chataway concludes the programme by interviewing Ben Hyde-Harvey, General Manager of the Harlow Development Corporation, who outlines the costs of the project and highlights its prospects for long-term self-sufficiency.
