Television advertisements for Fisons and their subsidiary company Hadfields.

1) Fison 52. The picture shows scales tipping against the cheaper 20-10-10 compound. The commentary emphasises that there is extra yield (20 cwt per acre) and extra profits (£3.75 per acre) from using Fison 52. 2) Fisons Super Beet. Pictures show a man leaning against a lorry laden with bags of Fisons super Beet. He is fingering the extra profit earned from use of the product. Working out his sums on the fertiliser bag he illustrates how Fisons Super Beet gives ?104 extra profit or ?3.25 an acre. 3) Fisons Double Season. Pictures show a farmer drilling winter wheat before the rain arrives. The message of the commercial is that the product is easy to spread, allowing the farmer to be inside with a warm mug of cocoa before it rains.For bigger winter wheat profits. 4) Fisons Concentrated Main Crop Potato. The possible concern about this product was that it was low in phosphate. The commercial is a staged, dramatised argument between a commercial man and a scientist. The commercial man thinks that this is the truth. The Scientist shows him the figures. He is convincedAll the potash most soils need. 5) Fisons Extra N. This is a cartoon advertisement in which the main information is shown in relief in growing corn. Extra N is a 25-10-10 compound, producing high yields year after year.Extra yield, extra profit. 6) Fisons Nitro Top. The emphasis in this commercial is that Nitro Top looks and behaves like a compound spread. No adjustment to machinery is necessary. 7) Hadfields Fertilisers. This shows an argument in a barn between a rep for another company and the farmer. The farmer emphasises the superior quality of Hadfields fertilisers and their speedy delivery. The rep. is portrayed as young and eager, but a little flash; wearing a suit and driving a new car.

Background Information

This film, a compilation, forms part of the Fisons collection. Hadfields was taken over by Fisons in about 1935 but continued to trade under its original name.
