Iron Foundry
1950 , Epping (Essex)
Cat no. 225
The process of making a cast iron part, 1950.
The film begins by showing the finished products of the factory. These include finished pieces of agricultural machinery and separate machine parts. The film shows the various stages of production. These include making a pattern, charging the furnace and the preparation of moulds. After the furnace has been tapped, the liquid metal is poured into moulds and left to cool. The next day, the mould is opened, the top being removed by hand, and the finished product is lifted out. The film shows the finished processes necessary to make a cast iron part; drilling, chipping and painting.
