News item of Harold Wilson recieving an honorary degree and meeting protesting students as he leaves with his wife.

This is a television news item, but without the sound. It shows Rt Hon. Harold Wilson receiving an Honorary Degree from the University of Essex. Dr Albert Sloman, the Vice-Chancellor, and the Chancellor, R.A. Butler are seen making speeches in front of a large audience at Colchester's Moot Hall. There are some shots of the crowd. Harold Wilson receives his Degree, shakes hands with R.A. Butler and makes an address from the lectern. Mr. Wilson is seen leaving with his wife. They get into a waiting car whilst protesting students are held back by the police. A scuffle takes place and a student is carried away.

Harold Wilson received one of the first honorary Degree to be awarded by the University of Essex. Other were awarded to Lord Butler, Lord Annan, John Emerson Davies, Professor Sir Michael Lighthill and John Northcote Nash.
