The crowds and participants of the festival and gala week in Welwyn.
Nancy Harlock, the Handside School Captain stands in front of an aeroplane, holding a bottle of champagne and flowers. She climbs into the plane and stands for the crowds, blowing them a kiss. The plane takes off and and she empties the bottle by tipping it over the side of the plane. The Handside School display acts of leap-frog, races and marching on the green. Motorcyclists enter the green and some attempt to go over small ramps. Children take part in a race before the Welwyn Folk Dancers enter the green to display their dancing skills to the gathered crowds. Children enjoy themselves on the various rides set up; including a carousel, a large slide and some swings, whilst the ladies enjoy the ice cream on sale. There are Scottish Highland dancers in costume. There are various stands of games and a peep show to entertain the many seated children and adults. A prettiest ankles contest is in full swing, then there's the smiling competition. A man and small boy go for a flight in the aeroplane, as aerial views of Welwyn are featured. Back on the ground the crowds have gathered.
