Mr. Hill's Zoo is home to some very talented animals.

The film shows various shots of Mr. Hill's Zoo for Small Animals, at Southwold. Firstly a rabbit is seen towing a carriage carrying a pigeon along a track. Then a parrot, carrying a Union Jack, tows a tabby cat. Finally, mice are seen on a roundabout and a big wheel, watched by a dog

Intertitles

Cab sir? (You can take your choice of driver.) When the cat's away the mice will play - with the dog as audience.

Background Information

Mr. F. Hill was an undertaker and cabinet maker. Over the years his menagerie contained jackdaws, monkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs, gulls ravens, duck, budgerigars, bantams, doves, owls and baboons. In 1934 he possessed a tortoise who was 109 years old. There was a local story, possibly a shaggy dog story, that he supplied the cockerel for the Pathe title sequences. Gaumont was founded as Gaumont Graphic in October 1910. It was issued bi-weekly, on Thursdays and Saturdays. Gaumont Mirror began in February, 1927 and ran to March, 1931.
