Three news items showing the rollercoaster being painted, behind the scenes at a local cinema and Southend traffic.
A dizzy occupation shows painters at work on the roller coaster. There are several long shots of the large wooden structure and close-up shots of the painters. Behind the scenes shows the projection staff at the Civic News Theatre in Southend preparing for a show. This includes putting on a record, lacing the projectors, dimming the house lights and rewinding the film. Getting a move on shows a street scene in Southend. This includes some trick photography showing the traffic moving backwards. There is a policeman directing traffic, which includes trams and trolley buses.

Background Information
Formerly the Talza Theatre, the Civic News Theatre was opened on 1st March, 1938 by Jackson Hartley. This film was shot in 1938 by one of the projection staff at the Civic News Theatre in Southend and would have been shown after the national newsreels. The film was silent; the commentary mentioned in the credits would have been given on transmission by a member of staff sitting in a glass booth. Music was added from the projection box record player. There were others made but this is the only one to survive. This was discontinued in 1940
