A carnival at Southend-on-Sea featuring a parade of children in fancy dress.
This film features part of a Carnival and begins with a parade of children in fancy dress, some of whom carry placards indicating that they've won a prize. There are placards indicating the categories i.e. King of the Empire: Coal, Girls Empire, Boys Beautiful. The prize winners are shown collecting their prizes. There are shots of the winners and close-ups of the children. The film moves on to a service in the park. The Mayor of Southend-on-Sea, Councillor Tattersall, takes the salute from several regiments including the newly formed Southend section of the Legion of Frontiersmen. There are also some retired soldiers taking part. There is a marching display, bands playing, and Canon Gowing, of St. Mary's Church, Prittlewell, is seen on the dais.
