Opening of the Old people's Rest Room, Oak Road, North Walsham, 1962

The first shots show the warden's house in Oak Road, followed by a general view of the bungalows for the old people. The residents are seen arriving at the new rest room and settling in. The Chairman of the Town Council makes the opening speech. There are various shots of the residents and of the furnishings, including a television set

Background Information

The bungalows in Oak Road are connected by an emergency bell system to the Warden's house behind which is the attached rest room. The warden's house was built only a year or so before the opening of the rest room. The first Warden was Mrs. O'Callagan who is seen in some shots near the end wearing a necklace. She received £1 a week and a free house for her work.
