Manningtree Celebrations for te coronation of King George VI; a parade, floats and entertainment, 1937
Much of the proceedings of the day appear to have taken place in the rain. The film begins with views of the parade as it passes the church. The first paraders are on foot; others follow on horseback and on bicycles as well as in a horse and carriage and a horse and cart. Many of the paraders are in fancy dress; there are some bands taking part. The floats follow. There is a float from Manningtree School and a series of floats on the theme of Stories From Childhood. Many floats have a boating theme. The Carnival Queen is walking with the procession. The film shows the crowds departing and then the parade is seen arriving at the Parade Ground, a field off the New Road, known then as the park. The floats are seen assembling and then there are close-up shots of many of the floats and the competitors. There is a display of country dancing, girls only, a gymnastic display and then some further shots of paraders in fancy dress, both children and adults and some individuals who appear to be well known pose for the camera. A high-angle shot to end gives a view of the whole park.
