A visit of the First Battalion of the Suffolk Regiment to Ipswich.

The film opens with scenes of the Battalion and Regimental band marching through The Cornhill, Ipswich, past crowds. The Battalion forms up and is inspected by the Mayor, Mr. C.E. Tempest. The Battalion marches out of Cornhill and the crowd disperses. The crowd lines the route of Christchurch Park. There follows the Presentation of Colours and a marching display. The officers look on and take the salute.

Background Information

The Regiment had been serving abroad for seventeen years prior to 1927. On its return it paid visits to various towns in the county to recruit for future campaigns. This tour had begun on 16th August, 1927 and this film shows the regiment's visit to Ipswich. This was the first time the regiment had undertaken one of these recruitment marches. The regiment marched from Colchester to Stratford St. Mary on 16th August, 1927 and carried onto Ipswich the next day. The Suffolk Regiment was originally formed in 1661 by the Duke of Norfolk from troops of the Windsor Garrison. Since 1881 it has earned fame as the Suffolk Regiment. (H.N.
