A British Transport Film depicting new diesel engines and travel in East Anglia (in part).

The film shows an early diesel multiple unit, new to people at the time. A family embarks on the train. There are shots of the platform and of the cab. The journey starts at Oulton Broad and continues along the East Suffolk Line. A father explains technical details to an enquiring son. The diesel unit passes over water troughs and a steam train on the other line picks up water. The train leaves East Anglia as the diesel unit enters a junction where a large gang of men is relaying the track. Then a small gang is shown at work packing ballast and checking the gauge. The train crosses a suspension bridge into North Wales, whereupon two passengers consult their map. The family open their B.R. packed sandwiches, while a first class passenger opens a case to reveal a buffet, including beer, apparently bought at the station before departure.
