Roy Hudd presents a nostalgic day out at the movies featuring clips from classic cinema and an interview with Charles Hawtrey.
In front of a live audience, presenter Roy Hudd introduces memorable sequences from classic cinema. The first is from Zorro's Fighting Legion (1946) and features thrilling stunt work from Yakima Canutt - best known for his work in the chariot race scene from Ben-Hur (1959). Cinephile Robin Osborne next requests a sequence from The Crimson Ghost (1946), starring Charles Quigley. Then follows a musical number from Eddie Cochran in Go, Johnny, Go! (1959). Sticking with the cinematic theme, after the 'intermission'; Hudd introduces a 'what happened to them feature?', charting the lives of some of the forgotten stars of days gone by. Two of these stars, Richard Dunning and Buster Crabbe feature in the trailer shown for 'Caged Fury' (1948). More music next from Jim Reeves in Kimberley Jim (1963). This part of the programme is concluded with an excerpt from "Good Morning, Boys" (1937) starring Will Hay. In a psychedelic shirt and tie combo, Charles Hawtrey enters the stage and in typical fashion greets Hudd with "Hello young man!". A sequence from Carry on Constable (1962) is shown. Hawtrey recounts working alongside legends of music hall such as George Formby and Will Fyffe; and concludes by telling the story of how the 'Carry On' series came to be.
