Film of the first ceremony for awarding postgraduate degrees and honorary doctorates.

Film shot at what is believed to be the first convocation for postgraduate degrees at the University of East Anglia. This was filmed as a private record of the day for the family of one of the graduating students. Benjamin Britten and Frederick Ashton received honorary doctorates - the first awarded by UEA. Sally Ivinson wears her graduation gown and mortar board. She enters a house and emerges with relatives. They walk around UEA campus to the building where the graduation ceremony will be held. Inside the hall, the academic procession is filmed passing the rows of people standing in the audience. The senior academics are then seen seated as the honorary doctorates and graduates are presented. Sally is seen receiving her further degree. As the procession leaves, the scene is recorded by men with still photographic cameras and cine cameras.
