Norfolk Young Farmers Clubs County Rally at Norwich Show Ground

1962 , Norwich (Norfolk)

An amateur film of the Norfolk Young Farmers Club Rally at Norfolk Showground in 1962

Coverage from the annual Norfolk Young Farmers Club Rally in 1962. The film begins with an overhead shot of the Norfolk Showground being set up pre-event, including footage of cars and marquees. The event gets under way with livestock judging. Several keen youngsters bedecked in long white coats fastidiously survey the dairy cattle, beef cattle, pigs, sheep and turkeys respectively. Numerous light-hearted competitions ensue including 'tractor fault-finding', 'identification of weeds and selection of sprays', bricklaying, hay-bale tossing, and clay pigeon shooting. Classic potted sports including tug-of-war, sack races, bicycle races and wheelbarrow races excite the watching onlookers and the caveman competition in front of the grandstand adds humour to proceedings. A catwalk parade of young ladies exhibiting the fashion of the day and the prize-giving follows. The main award ceremony brings an end to the outdoor proceedings, and the day comes to a close with indoor footage of speeches and a beauty pageant, with a sash being placed around the winner.
