BBC Look East interviews with a family of self-confessed fanatics supporting Manchester football teams.
At a family home, memorabilia relating to Manchester’s football teams, Manchester United and Manchester City, are on display. The parents, man and wife, support Manchester City; their son, however, supports the rival team, Manchester United. Over the kitchen table, sharing a pot of tea, the family argue about their team’s successes in the football season. The family are interviewed together seated in the sitting room. Manchester-born, now resident in Colchester, the family talk about the miles they are prepared to travel and costs they are prepared to endure to enable them to watch their beloved teams play. They talk about their family rivalry in supporting different Manchester teams, and the mother, a self-confessed fanatic argues the local football teams, Colchester or Ipswich are inferior in comparison. The family say they are prepared to return to Manchester, so they can continue to support their team. This film was transmitted to accompany a BBC East news story as part of the regional news broadcast.
