BBC Look East news report on the Old Framlinghamians, also recipients of the Victoria Cross.

A large crowd consisting of pupils and guests stand outside Framlingham College. A lady, Mrs Hewitt, makes a speech on behalf of her late husband, a recipient of the Victoria Cross as Lance Corporal Hewitt, also an Old Framlinghamian. The crowds applaud as she hands the medal to the headmaster. The medal is a gift to the school, that she hopes will inspire the pupils. Interview with the headmaster of the college who talks about the recipients of the Victoria Cross that were also Old Framlinghamians, including Lieutenant Flowerdew who was awarded the Victoria Cross for a cavalry charge in World War I (captured in a painting by Sir Alfred Munnings, another Old Framlinghamian), and whose medal is also housed at the school. The headmaster hopes the pupils will appreciate the medals, and recalls a story about the pride the boys felt when Major Hewitt visited the school. Interview with Mrs Hewitt, wife of the late Major William Henry Hewitt. She speaks about her late husband and why he won the Victoria Cross for bravery explaining the action he took during the First World War. He suffered injuries to his face, and felt that he would not be able to show his face to his then fiancee. She also gives her reason for donating the medal to the school. This film was transmitted to accompany a BBC East news story as part of the regional news broadcast.
