BBC Look East highlights of a ceremony that celebrates the official partnering of Bury St Edmunds with the French town of Compiégne.

The French town of Compiègne, showing the town hall building, and featuring a town parade of dignitaries. A man lays a floral wreath at the foot of a First World War memorial, of a sculpture of a woman and a boy at the grave of a soldier. Further scenes in the French town of a brass band marching in the parade. At a town-twinning ceremony, the leading dignitary of each town, Bury St Edmunds and Compiégne, sign a sealed and decorated document before seated guests, including the town’s beauty queen and her deputy, and Suffolk residents. Official gifts are exchanged, a large metal dish and a wooden plaque bearing the town coat of arms. This film was transmitted to introduce BBC East news stories as part of the regional news broadcast.
