The visit of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales to Luton.

Scenes from a local newsreel of the visit of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to Luton. The film opens with a brief scene of cars passing between crowds under an arch formed by fire brigade ladders. At the football ground, people have gathered in the stands to welcome the Prince. A film camera on tripod can be seen amongst other cameras recording the event. Clergymen are in attendance and the Prince of Wales inspects the military marching parade. There is a drumhead service and the prince returns the standards to the bearers. This is followed by scenes of floats in a celebration parade, and processions of schoolchildren including boys in gym kit who salute the mayor with their left arms raised. The final shot is upside down.

Background Information

The royal visit was to mark the Jubilee of the Incorporation of the Borough of Luton. A longer film of the event received from the same source is Cat 6518. These appear to be offcuts of some scenes from the longer film, plus additional scenes of the floats and processions of children not appearing in the longer film.
