[Acoustic Tests at Snape Maltings Concert Hall]

BBC Look East report on acoustic tests at a newly re-built concert hall.
Less than a year after a disastrous fire which destroyed the Snape Maltings Concert Hall, an audience is filing into the re-built hall to participate in a series of acoustic tests to ensure the sound quality of the auditorium. To test the acoustics, audience members are asked to shout in unison, a man fires a starting pistol on the stage, a string ensemble perform a short piece, a synthesizer is played and a controlled explosion is detonated on the stage. Interviewed by BBC East correspondent Michael Cole, Mr Sugden explains the results of the test, which showed that the acoustics are fairly close to the old hall. Mr Sugden also talks about the task of re-building the hall, explaining some of the improvements made to the stage, wiring, lighting and audience facilities and highlights the increased fire precautions.
