VJ Days

1945 , Aspley Guise (Bedfordshire)

A village celebrates Allied victory in the Pacific.

Three months after celebrating victory in Europe, the Bedfordshire village of Aspley Guise returns to the streets to celebrate the official end of the War, as Japan surrender to the Allied Forces in the Pacific region. Streets are decorated once again, and street parties are held in Duke Street and The Square. Young and old revel in the streets, some in fancy dress costume, but all proudly flying the red, white and blue of Britain and their Allied counterparts, the United States of America.
