A film showing the Clacton Carnival procession.

A procession makes its way along a street lined with people. We see a marching band and floats pass by. There is a close up of the carnival queen and some of the float designs. The procession passes the seafront. The parade includes a horse-drawn carriage, a donkey wearing a hat, the Kursaal Flyer elaborately decorated railway engine from Southend-on-Sea, other small trains and carriages, a ‘penny farthing’ bicycle, marching bands and carnival queens and their attendants. Floats include a display of bathing costumes old and new. A woman in bikini and white stilettos is followed by a man with a camera. A float of men dressed as garden gnomes, Clacton Swimming Club with mermaid and a road steam traction engine. The Derek Roy Home Finding Scheme for Greyhounds displays an Old English Sheepdog and a St Bernard dog as well as a greyhound, and is publicising the animal rescue work of the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection. Johnny O’Rourke and his Trumpet Orchestra and Artistes promote their 1962 Bandshow and the Butlins float publicises the £2,000 Holiday Princess contest.
