Background Information

Addenbrooke's Hospital was founded in 1766 on Trumpington Street, Cambridge with £4,500 from the will of Dr John Addenbrooke, a fellow of St Catharine's College. In 1962 the first building was opened on a new site at the end of Hills Road on the southern edge of the city. Landscaping began on the new site in 1959 and the first operation on site took place in 1961. By 1962 all departments and wards were open at the new site.
