Pocket Money

c. 1963 , East Anglia (East Anglia)

Anglia television news item in which children talk about how they spend, or choose to save their pocket money.

Seven children who receive regular pocket money, from 10 pence to 10 shillings, reveal their spending and saving habits. Two of the children, both girls, do not save any of their money. The rest of the interviewees save for Christmas presents and other special items such as dolls and a record player. The children deposit their money for safe keeping in various ways: a savings account, National Savings Bank, a tea pot, savings stamps and a tin. An arresting sequence of interviewees in large close-up.
