One woman experiences the loneliness of war.

Amateur filmmaker, cinema historian and railway engineer H.A.V. Bulleid presents this portrait of wartime loneliness, as a young woman struggles to cope with her absent husband. Opening with the words 'she walks alone, like the beauty of the night', the young woman stands on a hillside, waving to a distant train. Returning home, she surveys the dining room table, still set for breakfast, pours milk for her cat and sits at the piano, playing until interrupted by a knock at the door, which she solemnly ignores. As she stands up to check her calendar, searchlights outside scan the sky for German aircraft, before the evening calm is rocked by explosions, knocking pictures from her wall and plunging her home into darkness. With a candle casting mysterious shadows, she heads upstairs to bed, saying a prayer for the safe return of her husband. But will he ever return to end her loneliness?
