Anglia Television documentary, narrated by Eddie Anderson, about the East Anglian Film Archive, introducing key staff and activities, and featuring archive footage of regional events, people, and places. David Cleveland, founder and keeper of the East Anglian Film Archive, searches for old film amongst John Watson's home collection, and is pleased to discover 35mm nitrate film stock featuring the Haymarket Cinema in Norwich. Eddie Anderson provides narration throughout, accompanied by archive footage of early twentieth century picturehouse activity – hand cranking a film projector, a cinema auditorium, cinema queues - detailing the history of cinema attendance; its heyday, and later decline. Further archive films - a 1912 silent comedy, actuality film of wheat threshing in Boxted, amateur film of Southwold Railway, 1929 - represents its many uses – to entertain, to educate, and as historical record. The documentary continues featuring East Anglian Film Archive associates – film archivists, conservators, cataloguers; detailing their activities – collecting and repair at the Archive, and film shows at venues in the region. Also included are the activities of professional and amateur filmmakers capturing events in the East Anglian region; intercut with examples of archive film showing scenes of regional events, buildings, people and places.
