The Archive Centre

2003 , Norwich (Norfolk)

Documentary about the construction and establishment of a new Archive Centre in Norwich.

In Spring 2003, the East Anglian Film Archive (EAFA) and Norfolk Record Office (NRO) are on the move, transferring their extensive collections to new premises at the Archive Centre, which sits beside Norfolk County Hall in Norwich. This short documentary outlines the work of both organisations and their reasons for moving; EAFA having outgrown its former home at the University of East Anglia (UEA), and NRO still requiring a new permanent home after the Norwich Central Library fire in 1994. Depicting the construction of the Archive Centre - a partnership between UEA and Norfolk County Council, with substantial funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund - the film also shows a ceremony to mark the laying of the foundation stone, the installation of high-specification fixtures and fittings and the transferral of the EAFA and NRO collections. Necessary equipment is installed, and offices are set up and organised before the search room of the Norfolk Record Office and the viewing room of the East Anglian Film Archive are finally open to the public at the state of the art Archive Centre.
