Newman Saunders Interviews Jim Russell In Hospital

Anglia Television news reporter, Newman Saunders at the hospital bedside of racing driver, Jim Russell is interviewed in hospital after his accident talking about his possible return to racing and his own racing school.

Two nurses make the patient comfortable with pillows. Russell tells Saunders he expects to be in hospital for six weeks, then he will test drive a car and decide if he is ready to return to racing. They are joined by Peter Townley, an outside broadcast cameraman, who sits and listens. Jim Russell gives his views on the future of British racing, and refers to Stirling Moss. He thinks there are good signs of finding new talent for the future. Peter Townley, who has an interest in racing, asks how aspiring drivers can join one of the training schools. Jim Russell promotes his own racing school, stating that there is a one day's trial before commitment on either side. The cost to the driver will be about £5.00 per month. Russell sums up what he is looking for in his drivers: 'Consistency, and doing as they are told'.
