BBC Look East news report from a layby site in Northants where gypsy travellers have been ordered to vacate.
N.B. Some visuals have been removed by the BBC for re-use, although voiceover remains audible. Gypsy travellers in Northamptonshire have been forced to move on from a site, a layby on the A43, with orders by officials, just a short time before Christmas. Permanent encampments have been promised by the council since 1968, to no avail. Interview with one of the travellers, Mr Marriott, who is concerned that the settling needs of members of the travelling community have a long history of being overlooked by the local council. Interview with Jack Bentelow, Chairman of the General Services Committee, who argues there is a lack of funding offered by central government for gypsy sites. Mr Marriott and Mr Bentelow confront each other about the issue, before Mr Marriott has the final word, clearly upset and disappointed at the current situation faced by members of his community.
