An early documentary short tracing the life of a racing pigeon.
From egg to competition, this early documentary short presents the life of a racing pigeon. Appearing first as eggs, then as three day old hatchlings, seven day old chicks and at fourteen days, when a metal registration ring is fitted. At one month, the parent is shown feeding the youngster, but before long they are fending for themselves and ready to race. The day before the race, a racemark is stamped on the pigeon's wing and a rubber ring with secret number placed on its leg. Arriving by rail for the race, the pigeons are unloaded, fed and watered, and released in a hail of feathers, 4000 birds in 33 seconds. When the pigeons reach home, the rubber ring is opened and the secret number recorded in a clock which registers the time of arrival. The film concludes with a pigeon fancier feeding his favourite bird with his mouth.
