A BBC Look East news story reporting on the athletic sport of ‘race walking’, featuring female competitors at an event.

Footage and interviews from a regional ‘race walking’ competition. A gun shot marks the start of an athletic track and field race. Female competitors speed-walk along the track, as commentary details the history of the sport of race walking. Interview with a leading female competitor of the sport, discussing the sport’s struggle for recognition in the UK, and currently included as an Olympic event for men only, discusses the likelihood and possibility for female participants in the future. She also describes the unusual and specific technique of race walking accompanied by close-ups of the exaggerated motion of the female competitors. Interview with a second female competitor arguing the case for mixed-sex race walking events.
