Vision and interviews from a BBC Look East report on the preparations and trial run for the Cambridge student rag bed race to London. The modified beds and their teams wait in the snow, preparing for the trial run. The race begins as a variety of crazy contraptions race through the streets of Cambridge, dodging traffic and pedestrians. One bed hits the curb, falling apart, whilst another proves difficult to control. Interviews with some of the female 'pilots' follows, with discussions of 'near scrapes', top speeds and their chances of actually finishing the 60 mile journey to London. One girl describes how her team decided it was too cold, and abandoned her on the roadside in order to go home and warm up. Vic Epps, the rag organiser, discusses the reactions of Cambridge residents and the minimization of traffic chaos gained by racing on a Sunday. He also discusses the disappointing fundraising tally from the previous year and his expectation of a large improvement in this years collection. The report concludes with the teams walking the beds back to their colleges, in anticipation of the real event in the coming weeks.
