Every year, in mid-September, the villagers of Pulham Market in Norfolk hold a carnival. In 1975, the carnival theme was ‘countries’, and local amateur filmmaker Pauline Webb recorded the annual event in which local clubs, businesses, and individuals, come together to celebrate their community. The colourful carnival procession of floats and costumed entrants parade around the village starting from the playing field and ending at The Green, where the floats are judged. The year’s entrants include the local Horticultural Society representing the country of Japan, primary school children dressed as Cowboys and Indians to represent North America, and Pulham Badminton Club showcasing the steel drum and wearing cricket player whites to represent the West Indies. Children enjoy a Punch and Judy show. The film ends showing a motorcycle display.
