Railways and Stations Closing Down In East Anglia
1963
Cat no. 213937
An Anglia Television mute news report on railway closures in East Anglia.
The view from atop a high-speed rail service opens this About Anglia report on the closure of railway lines and stations along the Great Eastern Main Line linking London to Norwich and the rest of East Anglia. The report comes in the wake of the first round of cuts proposed by Dr. Richard Beeching, known colloquially as the 'Beeching Axe', which saw a wholesale reform of Britain's railway infrastructure. Speeding under bridges and through small stations, the train driver focuses intently on the tracks ahead, slowing as he passes through stations at Shenfield and Needham. Continuing along the line, under bridges old and new, the train passes another mainline service before reaching its destination at Liverpool Street Station, where passengers disembark.
