BBC Look East report on a British feature film shooting in Norwich.

BBC Look East reports from the set of 'Memoirs of a Survivor', an adaptation of Doris Lessing's dystopian novel about an unspecified disaster in near-future Britain and the subsequent breakdown of family and society. The film is told entirely from the perspective of an unnamed woman, played in the film by Julie Christie. On a heavily gratified, rubbish strewn Rouen Road, the clapperboard snaps shut to mark the beginning of a scene, with a group of youths piling rubbish onto a wagon, watched by the film crew, other members of the cast and onlookers. Interviewed by a BBC East correspondent, co-producer Michael Medwin discusses the contrast between his on-screen role in the BBC detective series 'Shoestring', and his two and a half year struggle to bring 'Memoirs of a Survivor' to the screen. Despite describing the production as 'total war' and an 'agonising process' and acknowledging the bleak subject matter, Medwin believes it will be a splendid film with an ending full of hope. With the production presented as a cause for optimism in the British film industry, Medwin proudly explains that the film was fully financed in the UK, with backing from the National Film Finance Corporation and EMI.
