Mirage

1950s

A man's attempt to quench his thirst is thwarted by a string of surreal occurrences.

A silent drama. Sweating beneath the bright, hot lights of a bare room, a man reaches for a bottle to quench his thirst. Finding the bottle empty, he leaves the room in search of liquid, any liquid. In another bare room he discovers a half-empty seltzer bottle, but the valve fails. Struggling to remove the top, the water literally disappears before his eyes. As the man gets increasingly desperate, his search for a drink becomes more surreal. A turn of the water tap delivers only sand, a boiling kettle is revealed to be completely dry, freshly delivered milk bottles are removed by mysterious hands, and even the rain outside his window quickly turns to dust. Sitting back in his bare room, the man hears a dripping tap. On investigation, he counters a strange man in a white coat who points at a glass of water. But just as the water flows, the man appears in a dentist chair, finally free from his anaesthesia-induced nightmare.
