Queen Mother Arrives at St. George's Guildhall, Kings Lynn

1960 , Kings Lynn (Norfolk)

Anglia television mute news footage of the Queen Mother’s arrival at St George’s Guildhall in Kings Lynn to attend a concert of the Welsh harpist, Osian Ellis.

A crowd of spectators gather outside St George’s Guildhall in Kings Lynn. Burly police officers await the arrival of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and with courtesy opens the door of her chauffer-driven car. Keen spectators lean from the first floor window of the opposite building. A woman dressed in a grand fur coat curtsies and greets the Queen Mother, who appears happy to attend, as do the street spectators in the background witnessing this momentous occasion. A close-up of the Guildhall’s exterior noticeboard reads “Lunchtime concert. Friday 8th January, at 1pm. Osian Ellis. Tickets 5’ from Guildhall box office.” The Queen Mother emerges from the Guildhall, gives a brief wave, and gets into her car. As the car pulls away, the Queen Mother gives an understated wave and smiles in the direction of the camera. Appropriate to the occasion, well-wishers doff their caps and curtsy as the car passes.
