David Jacobs

1970

BBC Look East item, David Jacobs discusses his career in broadcasting.

David Jacobs is asked about how he first got involved with broadcasting after leaving the Navy. With a history of doing impressions, Jacobs, got an audition for the BBC programme Navy Mixture in London, 1944, after which he eventually became an announcer and BBC news reader. Jacobs tells of the austere world of working in the BBC, and how he was deemed unsuitable for this line of work because of his propensity for laughing and joking. However he goes on to explain that good broadcasting is an art and should be worked at if the standards are not to slip. Please note that this film ends abruptly.
