A large musical ensemble and choir rehearse a choral piece in preparation for a series of 'Son-et-Lumiere' performances celebrating the history of Norwich Cathedral. The rehearsals are watched over by Ian Emmerson, Director of Productions at Maddermarket Theatre, who had previously produced the Cathedral's first ever 'Son-et-Lumiere' show in 1960. He also discusses the 1960 run, which was badly hit by the weather, but was extended to ensure a sufficient profit to benefit the Cathedral restoration. Outlining the performance, he describes it as a spectacle of sound and light, where the story of the Cathedral is told in dramatic episodes by actors from the Maddermarket Theatre, along with Leo McKern as the narrator and Stonemason. Emmerson also discusses the lighting effects, with 300 lighting units used to highlight particular elements of the building in this 'beautiful and dramatic spectacle.'
