Amateur footage of the official opening of Norwich’s City Hall, by King George VI. Brief shot of the Mayor, and of military officers at the War Memorial Garden, on St Peter’s Street, Norwich. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth arrive by car, are welcomed by dignitaries, and enter the City Hall. In the Market Place, Police Officer’s try to control the vast crowd of citizens who push their way forward in an effort to catch a glimpse of the royal subjects. Dignitaries, in full ceremonial clothing, lead a procession from the City Hall, followed by the King and Queen, and leading through the War Memorial Gardens, only stopping briefly for the King to place a poppy wreath on the centre block. The procession continues past a line of war veterans. The Queen greets some of them, and continues with an inspection of military and naval officers. The procession returns to the City Hall, where the Queen greets more citizens. The lion statue at the entrance is visible as the party makes their way up the steps. The King addresses the crowd. Sweeping views of the large number of people attending are shown. The officials and royal family enter the City Hall and appear on the balcony. The Queen emerges from a car, following by King George.
