Dick Joice presents an About Anglia special production on the Peterborough Agricultural Show, 1963.
A report from the 166th Peterborough Agricultural Show, the last major show of the 1963 season. Rumours that this might be the last show held on the current showgrounds is refuted by Mr Roy Bird, Secretary of the Peterborough Agricultural Society, who explains the Society's future plans to expand onto a new site in the coming years. Mr Burr discusses the highlights of this years programme, including the ever-popular horse and hunt show, and farm equipment displays. Joice also interviews Mr Richard Hallwood, an agricultural salesman who sits atop a very large John Deere tractor, before a return to Mr Bird who discusses the animal competitions, including the cancellation of the pig section owing to the outbreak of Swine Fever in the surrounding counties. Joice meets three recipients of the annual 'long service award', presented to individuals who have worked on one farm - or for one farmer - for over forty years. As well as Messrs Easton and Bye, he interviews Mr Borgognoni, the grandson of an Italian immigrant. Returning to Mr Bird, the discussion turns to the horticultural section of the show, which features thirty of the country's leading garden exhibitors, as well as an extensive decorative floral exhibit. Concluding with general scenes and high views of the showground, Joice - having 'spoken' to a pair of horses - signs off on this final About Anglia special report from the major agricultural shows of 1963.
