Industrial film showing the production of matches.

This industrial film, made by Cricks and Martin under their Lion's Head production brand, shows the entire process of manufacturing and packaging matches in a factory staffed by an even mix of men and women. Two men stand atop a stack of logs, rolling them to the bottom, where they are collected and delivered to the factory. Inside, they are finely planed to create the outer shell of matchboxes, which are folded and labelled by complex machines. Meanwhile, inner trays are shown being machine moulded from strips of card. The process of making the matches is shown in detail, with the timber planed and cut into splints, which are then fed into a machine which dips them in paraffin, and dries them ready for inspection. The card inner trays are then filled with matches and boxed, ready for use. The film concludes with the matches being used by a happy customer - a sailor - who packs his pipe, lights it with a match, takes a puff and smiles at the camera.
