BBC East report from the Christmas rush at a Norwich bakery.

News item focussing on the last-minute Christmas rush on goods at the Queens Road premises of Norwich baker and confectioner, A.L. Hardy. A brief sequence showing baked loaves being removed from the oven and a queue of customers inside the store is followed by BBC broadcast cues. The story proper begins with scores of customers lining the pavement waiting to buy their Christmas bread. Inside, bakers are hard at work as a BBC correspondent interviews Mr Hardy, who claims that it is always this busy for bakers during the festive period and discusses the problem of a four-day break in trade and the relative merits of fixing Christmas Day on a certain day of the week. The correspondent also interviews a woman working behind the counter, who claims this to be the busiest Christmas period she's experienced, and expresses concerns about the excessive consumption of bread over Christmas. Outside the store, vox pops with customers reveal why they have purchased so much bread and the relative likelihood of bread wastage.
