Anglia Television report on the effects of coastal erosion in Essex.

An Anglia Television correspondent reports from the rapidly receding cliff-tops of Walton-on-the-Naze, where Captain Skinner and his wife may need to evacuate their home of eight years, unless sea defences are created. The correspondent interviews Captain Skinner, who talks about why they purchased the house, initial indications about the dangers of coastal erosion and the recent activity which has seen their garden diminish from 60 feet, to within 6 feet of their back wall. Despite the very real threat to their home, Mrs Skinner is stoic, admitting that she quite likes living on the edge of a cliff and suggesting that, although it's a pity that they've lost much of their garden, at least she now has good views of the promenade. Captain Skinner also discusses the amount of property lost, the relative inaction of the local authority and the fact that no company will ensure against subsidence or coastal erosion for properties on the East Coast. Mrs Skinner insists that she is happy to continue living on the cliff-top and, far from worried about 'going over the cliff overnight', she plans to spend the rest of her days there. Captain Skinner is much more of a pragmatist, however, insisting they will stay until it becomes absolutely necessary to evacuate.
