Unedited pictures, from an Anglia television news item, of the walls of the Roman fort at Burgh Castle, near Great Yarmouth.

[Television film slates (marking the shots for the film editor) are in evidence throughout these unedited pictures.] A view of the extensive walls of the Roman Fort at Burgh Castle, featuring the large rounded bastions. Close-ups show the detail of the facing on the walls: knapped flints and layers of Roman tiles. The stonework on one of the bastions is also featured, followed by a shot of a very high wall or tower. Foundations appear to be weakening in places as another view shows part of the walled remains tilting away from the vertical.

Background Information

"The Norfolk Archaeological Trust owns the impressive Roman fort at Burgh Castle, near Great Yarmouth, close to the River Waveney and overlooking the Halvergate Marshes. The walls of the fort are in the care of English Heritage, but the Trust owns the fort, most of the surrounding farmland and an adjacent area of reed beds, which are full of interesting bird life. The property in all covers 90 acres (37 hectares). There can be few ancient monuments in East Anglia with a more striking location." (From: www.norfarchtrust.org.uk)
