Southend Carnival Procession August 28th 1929

The carnival parade on the streets of Southend is under way, policemen walk alongside the floats. There are dozens of floats including cavemen on a dinosaur, a carnival menagerie including people dressed as chimpanzees, and floats promoting the Rotary Club, float, Hovis, New Zealand butter and Guinness as well as local clubs and businesses. Two men and a dog pulling a cart celebrate Spratts dog biscuits. Many of the floats are motorised but some are pulled by horses, and the procession also includes decorated bicycles and motorcycles and horse riders. The parade is watched by hundreds of spectators who have lined the streets.
