LVC Breckland Trip Record of a days excursion made by students of the Village College, Linton, Cambridgeshire to Grimes Graves, Breckland and the Forestry School at Lynford Hall, Norfolk. Led by Dr Montagu Clifford Staff Tutor, University of Cambridge Board of Extra-mural Studies. The Road To Newmarket... Breckland..now becoming afforested both naturally and by planting. LAKENHEATH...the Airfield...a Soil Section. Sand Dunes- freshly blown the previous winter. Tracing the underground root of the sea-sedge, which germinates in damp hollows, spreads upwards and binds the dune. Grimes Graves..not graves but stone age flint mines- now excavated and covered. Lynford Hall The Seedling Farm In The Forest- cleft chestnut posts Experimental work on tree pests. A TIT BOX Tits destroy the pests that attack the growing points of the young conifers.
