A journey through the sights of Bedfordshire.

A journey through the Bedfordshire countryside, from busy Bedford to rolling farmland and picturesque gardens, from grand country estates to quaint churches, majestic windmills and medieval ruins. The film includes many village signs which carry the 1951 Festival of Britain symbol. Highlights include rowing on the Great River Ouse in Bedford, a 1957 meet of the Hertfordshire Hounds hunting party, and May Day celebrations at Ickwell. Views of the Cardington Airship Sheds, the Stevington Windmill, the long row of thatched cottages in Melchbourne and the burnt out shell of a windmill at Lower Dean are contrasted with steam trains powering past 'The Lookout' at Sandy and the billowing chimneys of the Stewartby Brickworks. Also featured are the picturesque gardens of Wrest Park near Silsoe, the chalk downlands of the northeastern Chilterns, the parks and gardens around Woburn Abbey, gliders in flight over Dunstable Downs and the the chalk quarry beneath Totternhoe Knolls.
