Luton Central Development

c. 1965 , Luton (Bedfordshire)

Amateur footage of the changes to Luton's town centre, an air display at Luton Airport, holiday pictures abroad and hot air ballooning.

Buildings of old Luton, including shops with their awnings, are contrasted with new building projects, and the major demolition taking place in the town centre. A display at Luton Airport featuring a bi-plane, some passenger aircraft, an RAF Victor, various WW2 bombers and transports and the Red Arrows. Panoramic views show the large crowds gathered on the field, the hangars and the surrounding countryside. More shots of town centre: the Co-operative store, old houses being demolished and the construction of new high rise buildings. Holiday shots in a foreign location, possibly Lake Lucerne. A hot air balloon is prepared for flight, takes to the air, and lands where crowds are gathered on rolling grassland. Finally, a shot of a postcard depicting a highly decorated building in a town square in Europe, followed by some night footage of neon lights in Paris - the Moulin Rouge discernible in the centre of the picture.
